Ronnie O’Sullivan lost his semi-final 6-4 to John Higgins.
Ronnie claimed a hard-fought opener 64-53 and re-established his lead with a break of 81 in the third after the Scot had levelled, but Higgins hit the front for the first time as he followed a superb run of 138 in the fourth with a scrappier 61-28 win in the fifth.
Friday
Ronnie beat Mark Allen 5-2 in today’s quarter-final match.
Having lost the first frame Ronnie hit back with a 92 and an 88, having missed the 11th red when he was on for a 147 break. In the next frame he was on for a maxmium again but on 122 Ronnie missed the green. He managed to wrap up the fixture with breaks of 90 and 50.
For the third time four ranking events this season Ronnie will meet John Higgins in a semi-final.
Thursday
Ronnie O’Sullivan made short work of Jamie Cope, winning 5-0 to reach the last 8.
Ronnie made breaks of 60, 73 and 52 on his way to completing the whitewash.
Wednesday
Judd Trump 5-2 lost his first round match to Masters champion Mark Selby 5-2.
After winning the first frame with a 31 clearance, Selby, who won the Welsh Open in 2008, knocked in breaks of 51 and 71 in taking a 3-1 lead. Judd pulled one back before Selby eased to victory with 115 and 58.
Selby paid tribute to Judd after the match, describing him as “one of the best players coming through.”
Tuesday
Ronnie O’Sullivan beat Stuart Bingham 5-1 in his first round match today. Ronnie raced into a 3-0 lead with breaks of 56, 66 and 89.
Bingham cut the deficit in a scrappy fourth frame after an error in safety from the world number one, and had chances to also take the fifth.
But after the Basildon player missed a red and a black in quick succession, Ronnie cleared the colours, including a brilliant green along the side cushion.
Ronnie then went on to seal the match with a break of 82 which climaxed with a final shot which sent both white and black flying off the table.
Monday
Liu Song’s appearance in the final stages of the Welsh Open ended in defeat to Neil Robertson today, 5-2.
Song advance into the final stages by coming through three qualifying rounds but despite being 2-2 at the interval was unable to prevent the world no 3 from stepping up a gear.
Song told Chinese TV, “I was nervous at first but I played some good shots. I made some mistakes while trailing at 3-2 so as to lose the whole game.
“Neil continues to make great achievements in competitions and holds his position among the top 16. I’m left behind and there is a big gap between us.”
