Not such a good weekend for the Grove’s seven players taking part.

Amateur Chen Zhe got through the qualifying round once again by beating Stephen Grove 4-0 but then lost to world no 27 Andrew Higginson 4-2.

Liu Chuang did win his first round match against Jeff Cundy 4-3 but then lost 4-1 to Allan Taylor. Liu Song also reached the same stage, losing to eventual finalist Jamie Jones 4-0 after defeating David Morris 4-2.

Two Grove players met in the first round – Jack Lisowski overcoming Zhang Anda 4-1. Jack was then unlucky to lose the deciding frame in seven to world no 21 Liang Wenbo.

Matthew Selt lost his first round match against Michael Holt 4-1, and Judd Trump also suffered a rare first-round exit at the hands of Adam Duffy by the same scoreline.
