Australian Goldfields Open 2012 Qualifiers as they happened

12 June 2012 No Comment

The Australian Goldfields Open qualifiers start today, with Chen Zhe, Jack Lisowski, Liang Wenbo, Yu Delu and Zhang Anda all trying to join Stuart Bingham, the defending Champion in Bendigo. Follow them here as it happens.

Tuesday 12th of June, 2012

It wasn’t a good day for the two Grove payers who started their campaign at 2:30 pm (UK time):

Chen Zhe 1-5 Michael Wasley
Chen Zhe was docked a frame at the start for being late and never looked settled through the match. Michael Wasley wasn’t at his best but he was definitely the better player, scoring more heavily and outplaying Chen in the safety department.

Zhang Anda 3-5 Fraser Patrick
This match was actually very close with both players missing unexpectedly and many frames going scrappy and being decided on the final colours. Ultimately though it was Fraser Patrick who did it when it mattered.

Yu Delu 2-5 Michael Wasley
The match wasn’t streamed so it’s difficult to know how it actually went. Going by the live scores, however, this was a much closer match than the score suggests. Yu was often first in, and was ahead in many frames but somehow couldn’t clinch them when it came to the final colours.

Friday 15th of June, 2012

Liang Wenbo 5-1 Thanawat Tirapongpaiboon
Liang played very well to beat Thanawat Tirapongpaiboon with a convincing 5-1 score. He played solid and scored a 112 and a nice 114 that was the highlight of the match.

Jack Lisowski 5-2 Dave Harold
Another solid performance from the Grove here as Jack scored heavily and fought hard when needed winning frames from way behind. A 104 was his highest break. The last frame showed how determined he was: being 71 behind with 67 on the table, Jack managed to get two snookers and won it from there.

Well done Liang and Jack, joining Stuart in Bendigo.
