EPTC 2012 Event 2 – Gdynia Open – Main Event

3 October 2012 No Comment

Liang Wenbo and Stuart Bingham have qualified for the final phase of the Gdynia Open (5-7 October 2012). Wenbo played Andy Hicks at 11am (local time) on the 5th in the very first match of the tournament and beat him 4-0. He the faced Jimmy White in the last 16 and lost 3-4 having lead 3-1 and 47-0. At the same stage, Stuart lost by the same score Tian Pengfei in a rather strange match. More detailed result here

Last 32 – Liang Wenbo 4-0 Andy Hicks
Wenbo completely outplayed and out of sorts Andy Hicks. Wenbo himself played well, scored heavily when in, looked composed and showed remarkable patience and some excellent tactical snooker when he needed to. Of course he also treated us with a good few crackers of long pots …

Last 16 – Liang Wenbo 3-4 Jimmy White
Wenbo started strongly, with a 123. He lead 3-1 and was 47-0 ahead in the fifth frame … and lost. Jimmy is playing well recently and managed to steal the fifth, win the sixth and make a 96 to take the decider and the match. Hard on Wenbo, but the man is a legend.

Last 16 – Stuart Bingham 3-4 Tian Pengfei
Tian won this rather strange match with a century. It had all started very scrappy and in the first couple of frames the standard was poor. Stuart then seemed to find his stride and at 3-2 up looked all set to win it. But Tian found some additional resources and forced a decider. Early in the frame Stuart laid a very good snooker. Tian escaped it but left a long red to the green pocket. Stuart took it, missed it and despite the fact that at that stage the table wasn’t open by any means, it proved to be his last shot in the match.
