Last 16 – Judd Trump 6-5 Barry Hawkins
Not an easy start for Judd as he lost the first frame after Barry put him in a very nasty snooker on the final green. He then almost lost the second as well, going in-off on the last brown, while Barry needed only one snooker. Luckily for Judd the black was on the top rail and Judd eventually managed won the battle on it. In frame 3, Judd missed a red at 27 and Barry duly punished him with 83, 2-1 to Bazza. Judd responds with 99. It’s 2-2 at MSI. Barry was first in in the 5th, but a poor split ended his break. Judd took control, scored 73 and it’s 3-2 to him. Early mistake from Judd, Barry steps in and makes 109; it’s 3-3. Judd misses a mid distance red when 41-0 up and Barry makes 85 from there. He leads 4-3. Barry wins the relatively early safety battle – it was 16-11 to him – and makes 61, he leads 5-3. Judd responds with 105, he still trails 4-5. Very dramatic 10th frame with both feeling the pressure. Judd looked like going home but managed to force the decider somehow. It doesn’t get much tenser. Judd gets first chance from Barry’s poor break-off and makes 107 to win the match. Great stuff from both.

Last 8 – Judd Trump 1-6 Graeme Dott
After an about 10 minutes safety exchanges, Graeme was first in. He didn’t clinch it in one visit, but he took the scrappy first frame. Graeme also takes the second frame. Judd had chances but couldn’t get scoring enough. He played for snookers but his safety wasn’t quite good enough neither. He needs to improve. Judd makes it 1-2 aided by a 47 break, not without a scare as he missed what was effectively frame ball and was lucky that Dott missed a red over the pocket to let him again. It’s 3-1 to Graeme after both missed a few shocking balls – both are at 81% pot success – and Judd looks in deep trouble. It’s now 4-1 to Graeme as Judd made some more glaring mistakes. Graeme having missed frame ball he had a chance to try to rescue the frame only to an easy red and leave it over the pocket. Graeme takes the next with 54, the highest break of the match so far. It’s 5-1 and Judd looks ragged. Judd obviously isn’t thinking clear anymore. Having fluked a red, he missed a long blue and let Graeme in again. This time he makes a 117 tc out of it. It’s over. Graeme wins 6-1. Judd tweeted right after the match “What a Disaster!”
