Shanghai Masters 2013 – Shanghai, China

14 September 2013 No Comment

Judd and Yu Delu are playing in the final stages of the Shanghai Masters 2013 (16-22 September 2013). Judd was runner-up to John Higgins in 2012 but couldn’t get further than last 32 as he was beaten Michael Holt 5-1 in his opening match. Yu Delu lost to Shaun Murphy, 4-5, in the very first match on the main television table.

Last 32

Shaun Murphy 5-4 Yu Delu
Yu will be very disappointed to have lost this match that he certainly could have won as he made too many mistakes at crucial times. Shaun made the strongest start winning the first 2 frames with breaks of 116 and 77. It was 2-2 however at MSI after Yu responded with contributions of 80 and 72 in the next two. Shaun won the very scrappy fifth, but Yu again leveled, helped by a break of 55. The next frame was scrappy again but Shaun won it with a good 43. Once again Yu came back, scoring a 54 in the process. He had the first chance in the decider but made only 30 of it after a bad split left him no choice but a safety. Both players missed balls that one would expect them to get but Shaun eventually got in and scored a well constructed 60. Yu battled for snookers but in vain.

Judd Trump 1-5 Michael Holt
It was another disappointment for Judd as he was beaten soundly by Michael Holt who did play extremely well indeed. He outplayed Judd in nearly every department but particularly in the break building. Judd showed patience for most of the match and played some good safeties but a high break of 23 is not good enough at that level.
