Shanghai Masters 2014
8-14 September, 2014, Shanghai China.
On the first day of the tournament, both Liang Wenbo and Li Hang had to face a wilcard. Wenbo lost by 5-1 to Yan Bingtao. Li Hang though beat Chen Zifan by 5-3. In the last 32, Judd lost by 5-3 to Dominic Dale, Neil lost 5-4 to Michael White and Li Hang lost 5-3 to Stuart Bingham. A pretty miserable tournament for the Grove team…
Wildcard round
Yan Bingtao 5-1 Liang Wenbo
Scores (Yan first): 92-59; 16-66; 95(85)-0; 74-32; 79(53)-39; 74(70)-0
Li Hang 5-3 Chen Zifan
Scores (Li first): 78(78)-6; 68(51)-16; 35-67; 79-13; 24-72(60); 67-39; 0-106(106); 102(102)-0
Centuries: Li Hang: 102, Chen Zifan: 106
Last 32
Dominic Dale 5-2 Judd Trump
Scores (Dale first): 50-64; 86-16; 1-117(100); 80(57)-41; 73-39; 103(103)-0; 117(102)-5
Centuries: Dominic Dale: 103, 102; Judd Trump : 100
Dominic had never beaten Judd before and played very strongly especially towards the end of the match. Judd was unhappy with the conditions and made his feelings clear.
Michael White 5-4 Neil Robertson
Scores (White firs)t: 46-64; 4-87; 46-96(96); 72-41; 107(55)-17; 80(55)-0; 55(51)-81(50); 82-6; 65(64)-21
Neil was 3-0 up and 4-3 up … he will not be happy but apparently he was suffering from mild food poisoning. Hard to stay focused under the circumstances. That said Michael White showed tremendous fighting spirit and played an excellent decider. All credits to him.
Stuart Bingham 5-3 Li Hang
Scores (Bingham first): 74-62(62); 0-136(136); 5-96(65); 0-141(141); 104(96)-1; 98(91)-5; 86(78)-1; 54-43
Centuries: Li Hang : 136, 141
This was a very high quality match as the scores suggests and, of course, Stuart went on to win the tournament. Li Hang can’t be too disappointed. He played very well.
