Venue Cymru, Llandudno, Wales – March 19th 2018 – March 25th 2018

This event featured the 16 most successful players in the current season. Three Grove players were involved: Judd Trump, Luca Brecel and Neil Robertson, all three tournament winners this season. Luca and Neil faced each other in the last 16, Neil prevailing by 6-2. Next for Neil came Judd – who had beaten Stephen Maguire by 6-4 in the first round – and this time it was Judd who came on top by 6-1. Judd then faced Ronnie O’Sullivan in the semi finals, in a very close, thrilling contest. Ronnie won it in the deciding frame and went on to win the tournament; he beat Shaun Murphy by 10-4 in the final.

Judd was understandably disappointed after the semi final. This is what he had to say:

“I got the balls open in the last frame then I had a kick. That left me awkward and I ended up going in-off. I think I would have gone on to win otherwise, the way the balls were. Anyone in the crowd could have cleared up from there. I felt I was the better player tonight but missed a couple of balls when I could have got it over and done with earlier.
“Ronnie struggled at the start, his safety wasn’t as good as usual and my long pots were going in. I didn’t play badly tonight, I felt relaxed and played some good stuff. It’s tough to take. I have had a lot of deciding frames this season and if I had taken my chances I could have won a lot more.”
