Ali Carter reaches the Masters 2020 Final
The Masters 2020 was competed at Alexandra Palace from 12 to 19 January 2020. The tournament was won by Stuart Bingham who beat Ali Carter by 10-8 in the final.
The Grove had four players involved in the tournament: Judd Trump, the defending champion, Neil Robertson, Jack Lisowski and Ali Carter. Ali is ranked 17th in the World and only got in the draw because Ronnie O’Sullivan opted out, yet he was the only one to progress past the first round. He beat Mark Selby, John Higgins and Shaun Murphy – all three former World, Masters and UK champions – to reach the final, where he narrowly lost to another World Champion in Stuart Bingham.
Ali was obviously disappointed to lose but still saw a lot of positives.
Carter said: “You have to say it wasn’t meant to be. I hit him with everything to go 7-5 in front. The interval came at the wrong time for me. I missed a pink with the rest and I never really got another shot.
“I wasn’t even supposed to be in this event. I’ve picked up £100,000 and it pays the school fees! I am gutted I’ve lost, it is all about winning. You guys aren’t interested in talking to me really, it is all about Stuart.
“It has renewed my belief. I am working with Chris Henry as my coach now. That has made a massive difference and hopefully there are a lot of good times to come.”
