Only weeks after suffering from pulsatile tinnitus, losing in the first round at the 2021 UK Championship, and being forced to withdraw from the 2021 Scottish Open, Neil Robertson made it to the final of the 2021 World Grand Prix, where he was beaten (10-8) by an inspired Ronnie O’Sullivan.

The tournament, featuring only the top 32 players on the one-year list, was played in Coventry from 13 to 19 December 2021. Judd Trump was the defending Champion.

Judd Trump, Mark Selby, Ali Carter, and Neil Robertson were the Grove players involved.

All of them won their first round match. Judd and Ali went out in the second round, whilst Neil and Mark progressed to the semi-finals were they played each other. It was Neil who prevailed by 6-3.

In the final, Neil faced Ronnie O’Sullivan who had not won a title since August 2020, when he became World Champion for the sixth time. Neil was never behind in that match until the very latter stages, but had never been able to really pull away either. He was 7-5 up after the last MSI. Then, Ronnie who had struggled all week but had shown steely determination, suddenly found his best snooker and won the last mini session by 5-1 in no time.
