Ronnie who has won it a record 10 times and is the defending champion will not compete in it, but Grove player Judd Trump is in action. He started strongly beating Stephan Lee 5-1 in Skegness. In Southampton, on 4th of October 2012, Judd faced Peter Ebdon. He won his match by a 4-2 score. Judd looked in excellent position to qualify for the play-offs and topped the table in his group. However Lee’s suspension changed the prospect and all of a sudden he found himself second. Next for him was John Higgins on October 25 in Guildford, and he lost that match. And Judd made it to the finals week-end by beating Mark Allen 5-1 in his last league match.

August, 16, 2012, Embassy Theatre, Skegness – Judd Trump 5-1 Stephen Lee
Judd earned 7k and made 95, 121 and 113 to finish the first league leg (very provisionally) top of the table. But the match was much closer than the score suggests as Lee could and probably should have won frames 1 and 3 in addition to the last frame. He lost both on the black having had a very good chance to clinch them. Nevertheless a good couple of hours work for Judd.

October 4, 2012, Southampton – Judd Trump 4-2 Peter Ebdon
Peter made Judd sweat at the start of the match, but from 1-2 down Judd found his stride and certainly showed his brilliance in the last 2 and 1/2 frames where he looked so easy at the table it was ridiculous at times. Two useful points and he’s now a strong candidate for the play-offs.

October 25, 2012, Guildford – Judd Trump 2-4 John Higgins
Judd won the first frame of what was overall an excellent match, with both players playing some excellent shots. John however took the next 4 making the most of a few Judd mistakes; there weren’t that many but it was enough. Importantly though Judd managed to win the last frame, keeping him on exactly the same points and frame difference as Mark Allen, his next and last opponent. It will be all about that match then.

Judd showed patience and determination to book his play-offs spot. Well done!

November 24, 2012, Grimsby – SF – Judd Trump 5-4 Neil Robertson
It was a very low standard and grueling match that finished just past 1:30 am. Judd’s highest break in the match was 44. He trailed by 1-3 and needed a snooker in the fifth frame. At that point his pot success was only 68% which is extremely low by professional standards. But he managed to get the snooker he needed and made it 2-3. From there, whilst both players continued to struggle, Judd looked slightly more at ease than his opponent. He won the next two frames to lead 4-3, only to be pegged back at 4-4. He needed five visits to seal the decider and the match, but it won’t matter. He’s through to the Final.

November 25, 2012, Grimsby – Final – Judd Trump 2-7 Stuart Bingham
Judd made 83 and 101 in the two frames he won, but Stuart played really brilliantly and dominated the match from frame 2 on. Judd acknowledged this and was very gracious in defeat, declaring that Stuart had been the best player throughout the tournament, and in the final, and was a deserved winner.
