Following Ronnie’s withdrawal, Judd was the only Grove player in Chengdu as the International Championship ran from October 28, till November 4, 2012. He booked his place in the final taking the World n°1 spot. And to top a great week he beat Neil Robertson 10-8 to take the title!

Last 32 – Judd Trump 6-3 Fergal O’Brien
Judd was not at his very best against the very gritty and experienced Fergal but he did enough to win 6-3. He took a 4-1 lead but then his concentration seemed to slip a bit and Fergal is always dangerous when mounting a comeback. He proved it again by winning the next two frames and be only one behind. Fergal was first in again in the next and, with a good table, he looked well placed to make it 4-4, when he brushed a ball with his waistcoat, leaving Judd in. Judd duly took his chance. The last frame lasted well over 30 minutes. Judd took a good lead, but not good enough to leave Fergal needing snookers. Fergal, as one would expect, battled hard and almost nicked it, but found himself too straight on the last blue and it ruined his position on the last pink. He didn’t manage to pot it or to get it safe, and Judd didn’t ask for another chance and potted the last pink for the match.

Last 16- Judd Trump 6-0 Aditya Mehta
Judd was in blistering form and won the first four frames in little over 40 minutes. After the resumption, the young Indian had the opportunity to gat a frame on the board, having played some very good safeties to get the snookers he required, only to lose position and subsequently miss the final brown. From there, Judd ruthlessly finished the job. The crowd was obviously delighted to watch Judd in full flow. It’s a hard result on Aditya who was playing in the last 16 of a major tournament for the first time, but he will gain experience and be back. He’s too good not to.

Last 8 – Judd Trump 6-5 Mark Allen
Judd booked his place in the semi finals by beating Mark Allen 6-5 in what is certainly, up to now, the best match of the tournament. It was fantastic stuff from both players, in terms of snooker skills as well as in terms of temperament. Judd’s composed approach of the decider, after being pegged back from 5-3 up, proved that he has a solid head on his young shoulders.

Semis – Judd Trump 9-1 Peter Ebdon
Judd trashed an out of sorts Peter Ebdon who will take little solace from the fact that he made the only century of the match. This win puts Trump in his second consecutive major final and gives him the World n°1 spot. Well done Judd!

Final Judd Trump 10-8 Neil Robertson
Judd topped a fantastic week with a fantastic win, beating Neil Robertson 10-8. It was a great final, very close and full of quality from both players. The momentum changed several times, but eventually Judd to came back from 6-8 down, with a 96 and a 119 in the process, to finish the job. He showed great temperament and maturity and can be very, very proud … as will be his manager no doubts
