Last 32 – Judd Trump 5-0 Mark Joyce
Judd’s highest break was only 66 but he looked very solid and determined. There was no repeat of the UK Championship disaster as he whitewashed Mark Joyce in no time. He was particularly impressive in frame 2, winning 71-69 from 0-69 down.

Last 16 – Judd Trump 5-1 Nigel Bond
Another very strong display from Judd featuring 111, 104, 102 and 83. But the breaks don’t tell the whole story: his safety was excellent as well.

Judd Trump 3-5 Matthew Stevens
It was a very frustrating day for Judd, who discovered that his tip had grown about 1/4 cm, apparently swollen by moisture, 20 minutes before the match. An emergency repair allowed him to play, but he wasn’t able to apply any side with confidence.
The table was obviously playing very heavy as well and the match was strewn with incidents: from the photographer disturbing the players repeatedly to the impromptu discotheque style light-show that interrupted the action. Judd fought hard, did well to control his frustration, and came back from 1-3 down to 3-3, but Matthew was playing well and deserved the win.
