Neil Robertson wins the UK Championship 2013

25 November 2013 No Comment

The tournament was played from 26 November to 8 December, 2013, in the Barbican, York.
The UK was played under the flat draw format, with strict seeding, for the first time and all Grove players were competing in York. Neil Robertson went on to win the title and doing so joined the exclusive club of players who have won the “Triple Crown”: World Championship, UK Championship and Masters. He made history also being the first non British player to achieve this.

Jimmy Robertson 6-3 Li Yan
77(55)-21, 68-52, 84-5, 67-33, 17-85(69), 22-72, 55-53, 6-101, 84(74)-15
From 0-4 down, Li Yan made a real fight of it. Well done to him considering what’s he’s going through recently.

Cao Yupeng 3-6 Zhang Anda
90-19, 75-51, 2-75(71), 36-65, 7-75, 0-98(58), 74(51)-53, 31-64, 4-86(86)
Excellent win from Anda, in particular considering he was 0-2 down.

Judd Trump 6-2 Gareth Green
89(89)-0, 74-18, 53-8, 17-76(55), 0-90(90), 75(54)-0, 105(104)-17, 99-27
Judd did enough against the young amateur who didn’t disgrace himself by any means.

Dave Harold 6-1 Chen Zhe
61-23, 99(90)-0, 63-44, 60-72(51), 85(59)-45, 69(9)-54, 58-37
The match was closer than the score suggests, but “Big Dave” is as hard as it comes and proved it again. His “motionless cue action” didn’t stop him to score heavily neither…

Ricky Walden 6-0 Cao Xin Long
83-29, 68(66)-7, 76(53)-12, 90(53)-37, 86-39, 69(51)-6
Basically Cao was not able to score enough when getting chances, Ricky did.

Neil Robertson 6-0 Dylan Mitchell
78-37, 81-27, 113(107)-0, 56-48, 63-30, 79(73)-17
Listen to Neil Robertson press conference after the match – positive and composed

David Gilbert 4-6 Li Hang
70-56, 36-85, 92(74)-11, 0-90(90), 0-78, 82-31, 70(51)-27, 22-68(53), 10-65(65), 0-73(73)
Excellent performance by Li Hang.

Liang Wenbo 6-2 Elliot Slessor
89-6, 1-89(89), 6-70(55), 70-17, 105(72)-15, 102(79)-13, 64-33, 120(120, 15 reds+blacks)-0
Wenbo missed the yellow for a 147 and £59000 … it would have been the 100th maximum in the history of the game.

Yu Delu 6-3 David Grace
75(50)-27, 64-10, 102(102)-28, 53-86, 2-86(67), 84(80)-0, 75(56)-53, 0-101(101), 61(50)-9
This was closer than the score suggests, both players playing and scoring well.

Michael Leslie 3-6 Liang Wenbo
41-68, 5-68, 65-56, 139(139)-0, 65-32, 0-77(77), 30-89, 0-71(71), 4-65
Overall a hard fought game, but in the latter stages Wenbo went on top winning all last 4 frames with two good breaks. Michael had a 139, highest break of the tournament at that stage.

Zhang Anda 3-6 Barry Hawkins
127(72)-5, 30-71, 69(69)-1, 15-66, 77(56)-36, 17-63, 44-63, 0-92(59), 16-74(71)
And played well and was in dominating the match up to 3-3, then Barry found an extra gear and pulled away.

Yu Delu 5-6 Matthew Stevens
54-73(51), 0-84, 62-53, 75-0, 12-85, 91(60)-0, 65(52)-15, 40-62(51), 57-44, 24-92(64), 54-67
Hard, hard … Yu lost on the final pink in that decider after both players had multiple chances…

Andrew Higginson 4-6 Li Hang
80(69)-0, 0-91(91), 63-53(50), 6-79(56), 70-15, 54-56, 0-80(80), 1-70(64), 59-0, 52-55
Close match and another excellent performance from Li Hang. Hard work is paying.

Judd Trump 6-0 Dechawat Poomjaeng
87-16, 82(78)-24, 97(97)-0, 105(64)-13, 61-39, 65-22

Neil Robertson 6-1 Robbie Williams
83-15, 65(64)-46, 70-0, 59(53)-22, 21-59, 119(119)-13, 90(90)-39

Last 32

Judd Trump 6-2 Xiao Guodong
104(103)-0, 0-125(106),102(102)-1, 73(54)-13, 51-15, 69(64)-0, 0-107(106), 133(133)-0
Ton fest.

Liang Wenbo 6-5 Stephen Maguire
0-119(112), 86(57)-39, 96(76)-19, 57(57)-66, 22-104(102), 37-70(60), 107(107)-0, 59-31, 61-3, 28-58(50), 37-74(66)
Another hard fought, high scoring match, but this time Wenbo couldn’t finish on top.

Neil Robertson 6-3 Li Hang
141(141)-0, 0-82(82), 86(57)-10, 40-59(51), 60-14, 74(68)-40, 16-94(52), 82-0, 75-37
Another very good match. Shame those two Grove boys had to clash at that stage.

Last 16

Judd Trump 4-6 Mark Allen
Judd got to the better start and lead 3-1 and 4-2, but was pegged back to 4-4 despite the fact that Mark Allen was really struggling. Mark wasn’t playing well but a mixture of true grit and good run of the balls at crucial times allowed him to seal the match. Judd was obviously disappointed and, to his own admission, frustrated with the result as well as with how the match went.

Neil Robertson 6-1 Joe Perry
74(74)-31, 98(70)-4, 0-75(75), 67-15, 135(111)-0, 71(55)-7, 95(95)-0
The two are close friends and practice partners but there is no mercy at the table!

Quarter Finals

Neil Robertson 6-2 Stephen Maguire
72-32, 66(56)-10, 71-0, 63(52)-25, 31-67, 135(128)-0, 29-71, 69-45

Semi Finals

Neil Robertson 9-8 Stuart Bingham
Listen to Neil’s press conference after the match

The Final

Neil Robertson 10-7 Mark Selby
Neil came back from 5-1 down to beat the defending champion, making three centuries in the process.
