World Championship 2016

14 April 2016 No Comment

Crucible Theatre, Sheffield, 16 April – 2 May, 2016
It was a tournament to forget for the Grove team. After the last 32 round, Judd wass the only Grove player still in the tournament. He had to come back from 6-3 and 7-4 down to beat Liang Wenbo by 10-8, but that’s as far as he went, going out to Ding Junhui by 13-10 in the last 16. Neil, seen by many as a title favourite, lost 10-6 to Michael Holt, and Anda went out by 10-5 to Barry Hawkins.

Judd looked also in danger to go out early as Liang Wenbo completely outplayed him in the first session, finishing 6-3 down. In the second session, the first two frames were shared. The next frame changed the match. Liang had multiple chances to go 8-4 ahead but couldn’t take them. As his confidence and game quickly deteriorated, Judd grew in confidence and completely dominated the end of the match, winning 6 of the last 7 frames. He couldn’t do it again against Ding Junhui in the next round, and was beaten by 13-10, despite a mini comeback against a nervous looking Ding.
