Trio of Qualifiers: Indian Open, European Masters and China Championship 2018
Over the last week, three sets of qualifying rounds were played in Preston.
Indian Open 2018 – last 128 – 15-16 Aug 2018
Three Grove players were involved: LIang Wenbo, Oliver Lines and Luca Brecel. All three won their qualifying match. Neil Robertson and Jack Lisowski are also in the draw but their match is held over to the main venue. Regarding the main event, that was due to be played in September, it has been postponed because of the floods affecting the Kerala area. Of course it’s a sensible decision: surely organising a snooker tournament is a low priority for the people in the area right now! New dates have not yet been decided.
European Masters 2018 – last 128 – 17-18 Aug 2018
Judd Trump is the defending Champion and has his match held over to the main venue, Luca Brecel also has his match held over, as the tournament is played in Belgium, his home country. All Grove players involved, Oliver Lines, Jack Lisowski, Ali Carter, Liang Wenbo and Neil Robertson won their qualifying match.
China Championship 2018 – Last 128 – 19-22 Aug 2018
Luca Brecel is the defending Champion and as such has his match held over to the main venue. Liang Wenbo as well will play his last 128 match in China, being China n°2 player. Neil Robertson, Ali Carter, Jack Lisowski and Judd Trump all won their qualifying match. Only Oliver Lines will miss the trip to China having lost by 5-3 to Michael White.
