The 2020 European Masters

The 2020 European Masters was players at Marshall Arena in Milton Keynes, from 21 to 27 September 2020, uner social distancing rules. The event was won by Mark Selby, who beat Martin Gould by 98- in the Final.
Neil Robertson was the defending champion. He reached the quarter-finals where he narrowly lost by 5-4 to Shaun Murphy. Ding Junhui lost by 5-1 at the same stage to the eventual champion, Mark SElby.
Judd Trump was the most succesful Grove player. He lost by 6-3 to Martin Gould in the semi-finals.

2020 World Championship Qualifiers

Three Grove players needed to qualify for the 2020 World Championship at the Crucible. Ali Carter and Luca Brecel needed to win two matches, Oliver Lines needed three. All lost their first match. For Oliver, this means that he now needs to get the results in the Q-school to keep his professional status.
The tournament was played at the EIS in Sheffield, behind closed doors. It ran from the 21st to the 28th of July 2020.

Judd Trump wins the 2020 Gibraltar Open

The 2020 Gibraltar Open was played from 13 to 15 March 2020 (pro stages) and Judd Trump beat Kyren Wilson by 4-3 to win the title. This was Judd’s sixth ranking title this season, a new record. By winning this event, Judd also won the European Series, and the £150000 bonus that comes with it, snatching it from Neil Robertson!

The tournament was played behind closed doors over the week-end as a precautionary measure in the context of the corona virus outbreak.

2020 Welsh Open

The 2020 Welsh Open was played in Cardiff, Wales from 10 to 16 February 2020. The tournament was won by Shaun Murphy who beat Kyren Wilson by 9-1 in the final.
All Grove players were involved. Neil Robertson was the defending champion. Neil came to compete in Cardiff right after winning the World Grand Prix. He had just made three finals in the last three weeks, in three different countries, winning two. Jack Lisowski reaches the 2019 Scottish Open Final

The 2019 Scottish Open, the last ranking event of the decade, ran from December 9 to 15, 2019 in Glasgow. The event was won by Mark SElby who defeated Jack LIsowski by 9-6.
Although disappointed, Jack vwas able to take the positives from this excellent run. After the match he said:

“It is gutting to lose the final. You have to take the positives and this is a big step forward for me. I have built some momentum and I played some of the best snooker that I think I can play. …

The 2019 UK Championship

The 2019 UK Championship was played in York Barbican from November 26 to December 9, 2019. The tournament was won by Ding Junhui. It was Ding’s third UK crown, ten years after his second. Although Django Fung isn’t managing Ding, he had the pleasure to work with him for this tournament.

Django said: “I’m so happy to work with Ding, and want to congratulate him for his achievements”.

Otherwise it was a bit of a strange tournament for the Grove players.

Judd Trump defends his Northern Ireland Open title

Judd Trump beat Ronnie O’Sullivan by 9-7 to retain his Northern Ireland Open title. It was a match of the highest quality, and a repeat of the previous year final. By winning this title, Judd accomplished something that hadn’t be done since Stephen Hendry in 1990/91, winning three ranking events as a first time World Champion, and, of course, there could be more to come. This victory further consolidates Judd’s status as the current dominant figure in snooker: he’s World Champion, World number one and miles ahead of everyone else …

English Open 2019

The 2019 English Open was played in the K2, in Crawley from 14 to 20 October 2019.
The tournament was won by Mark Selby who beat David Gilbert by 9-1 in the Final.
It wasn’t a good tournament for the Grove players: only three of them reached the last 32: Neil Robertson, Jack Lisowski and Judd Trump and that’s as far as they got. Ali Carter, Oliver Lines, Luca Brecel and Liang Wenbo lost right away in the first round.

The first round of the 2019 World Open was played in Barnsley from October 2 to October 5, 2019. Luca Brecel and Judd Trump have their match held-over to the main venue in Yushan, Judd because he’s the World Champion, Luca because he’s due to play a wildcard. All other Grove players were due to Barnsley…

The China Championship 2019 Qualifiers were played from 15th to 18th of August 2019, at the Barnsley Metrodome. All the Grove players were involved, except for Judd who, being the reigning World Champion, has his first round match held-over. It was a mixed bag for the Grove as Neil, Jack and Luca qualified easily, but Ali, Oliver and Liang Wenbo were beaten.
