European Masters 2018
The European Masters 2018 was played at “De Soeverein”, in Lommel, Belgium, from 1 to 7 October 2018. The tournament was won by Jimmy Robertson, who beat Joe Perry by 9-6 in the Final.
All Grove players were playing in this tournament. Both Luca and Judd had their last 128 match held-over, Luca being the only Belgian player on the tour, and Judd being the defending champion, and both went on to win those matches.Judd was looking to make it three in a row but it wasn’t to be this time.
It was Jack – again – who performed the better of the Grove team, reaching the QF, where he lost narrowly to Anthony Hamilton, and, maybe, it could have been different if Jack hadn’t be first to play in the afternoon after a very late finish on the previous day. Indeed, his last 16 math had started at 10:30 pm! Jack also shared the highest break, 135, with Jimmy Robertson.
Luca and Liang reached the last 16. Luca who wasn’t at his best battled very valiantly: he found himself 3-0 down to the very tough Anthony Hamilton but fought back to force a decider. It was Anthony though who won the match eventually. Liang lost to Tian Pengfei, who had also been responsible for Judd Trump exit in the previous round.
Oliver Lines lost in the last 64, to Joe Perry who, of course, reached the final. Neil Robertson lost at the same stage to Andrew Higginson. It wasn’t a case of Neil playing badly really: Andrew played very, very well.
