The 2024 Xi’an Grand Prix

26 August 2024 No Comment

The 2024 Xi’an Grand Prix was played in Xi’an, China, from 19 to 25 August 2024. This was the first instalment of this event, therefore there was no defending champion. The event was won by Kyren Wilson, the reigning World Champion who defeated Judd Trump, the current World Number One, by 1-8 in an excellent final.

All Grove players were involved albeit not all of them made it to the venue. Round 1 matches had been played in Leicester during the last week of July and two of the Grove players failed to get to the main venue. Luca Brecel found himself caught in traffic and didn’t arrive at the venue in time for his match, his opponent got a “walk over” and Wu Yize lost by 5-3 to Paul Deaville. Ding also lost in round 1, by 5-4 to Alfie Burden but that match had been held-over to the main venue.

Neil Robertson lost in round 2, by 5-2, to Yuan Sijun. Mark Selby reached the round of 16, where he lost by 5-4 to David Gilbert
