18 August 2012 No Comment

The International Championship will be played in China end October and will have a format similar to the UK Championship as well as huge prize money. The qualifiers were played in Sheffield from August 19th to August 23, 2012 and all matches will be best of 11.
Chen Zhe, Jack Lisowski, Li Yan, Liang Wenbo, Yu Delu and Zhang Anda were be in action but none of them managed to qualify for the main event.

Sunday 19th of August 2012

9:30 am – Li Yan 5-6 Zhang Anda
No quarters were given in this battle of the Grove. Li Yan lead 4-1 and 5-3 but Zhang Anda fought back, forced a decider – it went scrappy and very tense – and eventually won it. Well done Anda, commiserations Yan. Li Yan had a 117 and a 81, Zhang Anda had a 92.

7 pm – Chen Zhe 1-6 Martin O’Donnell
It was a rather low scoring match, with most frames going scrappy and fragmented. Sleepy never really seemed able to put Martin under pressure and wasn’t scoring heavily enough when in. His highest break of the match was only 24.

2:30 pm – Alfie Burden 6-3 Zhang Anda
Anda had 66, 78 and 104 but it wasn’t enough. Alfie dominated him in the safety department and that made the difference. The last frame was particularly dramatic. Anda was 68-21 in the lead and looked all set to make it 4-5. Alfie needed 3 snookers to tie with one red left on the table. He got them and earned himself a respotted black. Alfie won the toss and put Anda in first. Anda played the classical shot sending the black and the white tight on opposite side cushions. Alfie took the risk and doubled the black to win the match.

7 pm – Yu DeLu 6-3 Ian Burns
Yu won an excellent match that featured some high standard safeties from both players. It was extremely hard fought and very good quality despite a few unexpected misses on both sides: Yu made 5 breaks over 50 in this match.

Tuesday 21th of August 2012

2:30 pm – Jack Lisowski 2-6 Kurt Maflin
Most frames were actually close ones, fragmented and hard fought, but unfortunately for Jack it was Kurt who managed to win most of them.

2:30 pm – Liang Wenbo 6-4 Adam Duffy
Wenbo won this close and entertaining match played in good spirit to book his place in the final round of the qualifiers. The 10th and last frame was particularly dramatic as Wenbo lead with 51 but Adam was coming back at him and looked set to force a decider when he crucially missed the final brown. Wenbo won the ensuing safety battle and potted the brown but couldn’t continue further. It was Adam who won the battle on the blue, potted it but went in-off. Wenbo then managed to pot the blue off its spot from the baulk – not that easy under pressure – followed by the pink to clinch frame and match.

7 pm – Jamie Burnett 6-3 Yu Delu
Yu had a very bad day in office. During the first mini session he was really missing too many easy balls and soon found himself 4-0 down. To his credit he came back fighting after the MSI but he had left himself too much to do.

Wednesday 22th of August 2012

2:30 – Robert Milkins 6-1 Liang Wenbo
Without watching the match it’s hard to know exactly what happened there. Robert Milkins on form is a very heavy scorer. Whatever, Wenbo obviously had to answer today, in particular after the MSI: he only scored 7 points in 3 frames…
