The Australian Goldfields Open 2013 Qualifiers were held in the Capital Venue in Gloucester from May 30 to June 3, 2013. Che Zhe, Li Hang, Li Yan, Zhang Anda and Yu Delu will try to qualify for the main event, played in July in Bendigo, Australia. Jack Lisowski, Judd Trump and Liang Wenbo did not enter. After four rounds, Anda is the last man standing and he’s Australia bound.

Round 1

Li Yan 5-1 Dylan Mitchell
Going by the frame scores and breaks, Li Yan beat his amateur opponent easily without hitting top gear.

Li Hang 5-1 Josh Boileau
Having lost the first frame, Hang recovered and showed no mercy to his amateur Irish opponent. Breaks of 62, 50 and 59 helped him to seal victory in a fairly one-sided match.

Round 2

Yu Delu 5-1 Michael Leslie
Yu dominated the match, only two frames were close, including the one he lost. He had three breaks over 50: 50, 84 and 75, the last two coming in the last two frames of the match.

Liu Chuang 5-4 Li Hang
Hang narrowly lost a very close and hard fought match there. There was never more than one frame difference in the score. He was first in in the decider and lead 56-0, but his opponent stole it with a good 61.

Anthony McGill 5-2 Li Yan
Li Yan started well winning the first two frames with a 61 in the process. But then Anthony apparently woke up, and killed the match, winning five on the trot with 52, 62, 80 and 78. Ruthless.

Chen Zhe 5-1 Sean O’Sullivan
Sleepy had breaks of 60, 98 and 72 (to finish the match) in sealing a comfortable win over “the other” O’Sullivan.

Zhang Anda 5-4 Oliver Lines
Anda didn’t have it all his way with young Oliver Lines. At the MSI he was 4-0 up, aided by breaks of 51, 78, 82 and 65. When they resumed, Oliver came back fighting hard and managed to win four on the trot to force a decider despite a highest match break of only 51. Anda held his nerves in the decider though, restricting his opponent to only 3 points.

Round 3

Yu Delu 3-5 Jimmy White
It was a high scoring match with both players making three 50+ break each. Jimmy lead 3-0, with 62, 65 and stealing frame three despite Yu’s 51. Yu then hit back, winning three on the trot with 57 and 64. But Jimmy found another gear to get the two more frames he needed, finishing with a 86.

Ian Burns 5-2 Chen Zhe
Going by the frames scores this was a strange match. Zhe won the first two, then lost the next five and the match being restricted to only 41 points in those frames. It must have been scrappy as well, as there was no break over 50 in the whole game.

Gerard Greene 4-5 Zhang Anda
This was a very, very close match. There never was more than one frame between the two men, and only two frames were one-sided. All credit to Anda to get through this one! He’s now one match away from Australia.

Round 3

David Gilbert 4-5 Zhang Anda
Another decider and another win for Anda. Both players were scoring well although most frames were hard fought rather than won in one visit. Anda was 3-1 at the MSI but David came back strong after the resumption and won three on the trot to lead 4-3. Anda didn’t panic and managed to force a decider, then to control and win it. Well done Anda!
