After a quiet start to his first professional season, it was a fantastic weekend for the Grove’s Jack Lisowski who returned to his winning ways. Jack won six consecutive matches, starting out in the first round with a 4-2 win against Jimmy Michie which showed a glimpse of the form to come with breaks of 87, 70 and 75 for Jack.

Six Grove players were in action for qualifying for the first major ranking tournament of the year, the Shanghai Masters.
Liu Song found himself in the draw at the expense of John Higgins, and took advantage by winning his first match against Ben Woollaston 5-3, including breaks of 91 and 84. Song was unable to keep this up however and went out in the next round 3-5 to James Wattana.

The first of World Snooker’s Players Tour Championship events has kicked off in Sheffield, with professional Main Tour players and amateurs alike battling for a prize fund of £50,000.
Seven Grove players are taking part: Judd Trump, Liu Song, Matthew Selt, Zhang Anda, Jack Lisowski, Liu Chuang and Chen Zhe.

Friday 5 March:
A fantastic result for Anda today, beating Andrew Higginson 10-8. Anda started well with an early break of 114 to lead 6-3 at the interval. However, after winning the first game of the second session, Andrew then won five games in a row to lead 8-7. Anda held his nerve to take the last three games and complete the victory. The win gives Anda double reason to celebrate, as it confirms his place on the Main Tour for 2010/11.

The Grove is very happy to report that Liu Song has become the first Chinese player to attain the World Snooker Coaching badge.
Song said, “I’m delighted to become the first person from my country to attain such an accodale. Becoming a recognised coach under World Snooker’s programme is something that I have aimed for.”

Judd Trump wasted no time in booking his place for the final stages at Beijing. He beat Tom Ford 5-1 and rattled in breaks of 114 and 100 on the way.

Ronnie O’Sullivan lost his semi-final 6-4 to John Higgins.
Ronnie claimed a hard-fought opener 64-53 and re-established his lead with a break of 81 in the third after the Scot had levelled, but Higgins hit the front for the first time as he followed a superb run of 138 in the fourth with a scrappier 61-28 win in the fifth.

A great win today for Liu Song in the final qualifying round, beating world no 24 Michael Holt 5-1. It’s the first time in over two years that Song has reached the final stages of a ranking tournament and he is looking forward to meeting up again with sometime Grove player Neil Robertson on Monday afternoon in Newport.
