Judd Trump loses his Champion of Champions crown but hits a 147 in the Final

The 2022 Champion of Champions was played in Bolton, from 31 October to 6 November 2022. Judd Trump was the defending champion. He reached the final again but was beaten 10-6 by Ronnie O’Sullivan
This tournament is open to players who were event winners in the previous year. From Grove, Judd Trump, Neil Robertson, and Mark Selby were invited. Mark hadn’t won an event but got an invitation on the basis of his ranking
Neil narrowly lost in the first round to Fan Zhengyi, the European Masters Champion.

The 2022 Hong Kong Masters

The 2022 Hong Kong Masters was played from 6 to 9 October 2022 in the Coliseum in Hong Kong. Neil Robertson was the defending champion. He defeated Ronnie O’Sullivan in the first Hong Kong Masters in 2017. This time Ronnie lifted the trophy, beating Marco Fu in the Final (6-4)
The event was a fantastic success. The final was played in front of an audience of about 9000 persons, an absolute record for any snooker event.

The 2022 British Open

The tournament was played from September 26 to October 2, 2022, in Milton Keynes, England. Mark Williams was the defending champion but he lost in the first round proper (L64). The event was won by Ryan Day who beat Mark Allen by 10-7 in the final.
Neil Robertson did not enter the event.
Ali Carter lost in the qualifying round (4-1 to Hammad Miah)
Ding Junhui reached round 2 (last 32) where he lost by 4-2 to Robbie Williams. Robbie went on to reach the semi-finals.

Neil Robertson defends his Tour Championship title

Only Neil Robertson and Judd Trump were playing in the prestigious 8 men’s event in Llandudno last week (28 March – 3 April 2022). Neil was the defending Champion and duly emerged the winner again. He beat Mark Allen (10-6), Ronnie O’Sullivan (10-9), and John Higgins (10-9) to defend the title in magnificent fashion. He battled from 9-4 down to win the final.

This was Neil’s twenty-third ranking title.

Other than Mark Selby, all Grove players were involved in the 2022 Gibraltar Open, played from 24 to 26 of March 2022 in … Gibraltar. Judd Trump was the defending champion but was beaten at the last 16 stages. Ding was the most successful Grove player, reaching the QFs.

Judd Trump wins the inaugural Turkish Masters

Judd Trump won his first ranking tournament of the season when he beat Matthew Selt by 10-4 to win the 2022 Turkish Masters. This brought Judd’s tally of ranking titles to 23. The event was played in Antalya from March, 7 to March 13, 2022. It was the first time that a ranking professional snooker tournament was played in Turkey.

The event was well supported by the enthusiast Turkish fans, and Judd rewarded them with a wonderful 147, his sixth, in the 10th frame of the final.

The 2022 Welsh Open

The 2022 Welsh Open was played from 28 February to 6 March 2022, in Celtic Manor, Newport, Wales. Jordan Brown was the defending champion.
The event was won by Joe Perry, who beat Judd Trump by 9-5 in the final.

The 2022 European Masters was initially scheduled to be played in Fürth, Germany, but was eventually held in Milton Keynes, England because of covid-related travel restrictions. It ran from 21 to 27 February 2022. The event was won by Fan Zhengyi who beat Ronnie O’Sullivan by 10-9 in the final.

Michael Holt hadn’t qualified for the television stages.
Ding didn’t enter the event.
Mark Selby, who continues to battle depression, lost by 5-3 to Jordan Brown in the last 64 round.

Neil Robertson wins the 2022 Players Championship

Neil Robertson has won the 2022 Players Championship, beating Barry Hawkins by 10-5 in the Final. This brings Neil’s tally of ranking titles to 22, on par with Judd Trump. Despite still feeling a bit tired from covid, and not being at his very best, Neil played well all tournament considering how tough the conditions proved to be.
The tournament, which featured only the top 16 in the one-year ranking list, was played in Wolverhampton from 7 to 13 February 2022.
Only Neil and Judd Trump represented the Grove in this event. …

The 2022 German Masters

The 2022 German Masters was played at the Tempodrom in Berlin from 26 to 30 January 2022. The tournament was won by Zhao Xintong who beat Yan Bingtao by 9-0 in the “youngest” final since 2006 and only the second “all Chinese” final in snooker history.
Only Mark Selby, Judd Trump, and Neil Robertson were involved in the final stages in Berlin.
