The 2021 Welsh Open

The tournament was played from 15th to 21st of February 2021, in Celtic Manor Resort, Newport, Wales. It was the first tournament of the 2020/21 season not to be played in Milton Keynes. The tournament was won by Jordan Brown, ranked 81st at the start of the event. He beat Ronnie O’Sullivan by 9-8 in the final.
It wasn’t a particularly “happy” event for the Grove team. Neil Robertson withdrew, citing personal reasons.

Judd Trump defends his German Masters Title

The 2021 German Masters was played behind closed doors in Milton Keynes from 27th to 31st January 2021. Ahead of the tournament, it was announced that the trophy would be renamed the “Brandon Parker Trophy”, in honour of the late WBBSA director who brought snooker to the iconic Tempodrom in Berlin and worked tirelessly to develop snooker in mainland Europe.

The Masters 2021

WST had hoped the 2021 Masters would be held at its home, Alexandra Palace, and in front of a crowd. Unfortunately, this wasn’t the case. The event was played in Milton Keynes from 10 to 17 January 2021. Stuart Bingham was the defending champion. The event was won by Yan Bingrao, the youngest player in the draw. He defeated Jogh Higgins by 10-8 in the final to become the youngest Master champion since Ronnie O’Sullivan 26 years ago.

Judd Trump wins the 2020 World Grand Prix

Judd Trump won his twentieth ranking title and the sixth of the year defeating Jack Lisowski by 10-7 in the 2020 World Grand Prix Final.
The tournament was played under social distancing rules at the Marshall Arena in Milton Keynes from December, 14 to December 20, 2020.
Neil Robertson was the defending champion but lost by 4-2 to Robert Milkins in the first round (last 32). Ding progressed to the last 16 where he lost to Hossein Vafaei, by 4-1.

The 2020 Scottish Open

The 2020 Scottish Open was played at the Marshall Arena in Milton Keynes, from 7 to 13 December 2020. Mark Selby successfully defended the title, beating Ronnie O’Sullivan by 9-3 in the final.
All Grove players, except Neil Robertson, were involved. Neil who had just won the 2020 UK Championship in the early hours on the day the Scottish Open was due to start, withdrew. Judd who was the UK Championship runner-up decided to play in the Scottish Open, despite being understandably fatigued.

UK Championship Treble for Neil Robertson

Neil Robertson beat Judd Trump by 10-9 in the Final of the 2020 UK Championship, winning the Triple Crown event for the third time. He had previously won this prestigious event in 2013 and 2015. Only three players have more UK crowns: Ronnie O’Sullivan (7, Steve Davis (6)), and Stephen Hendry (7). This is Neil’s 19th ranking title, bringing him on par with Judd Trump, and one better than Mark Selby.

Judd Trump is the 2020 Northern Ireland Open Champion

Judd Trump won the Northern Ireland Open for the third time in a row, beating Ronnie O’Sullivan by 9-7 on all three occasions. This brings Judd’s tally of ranking titles to 19, one better than Neil Robertson and Mark Selby.

Neil Robertson made it to the 2020 Champion of Champions Final

The tournament was played in Milton Keynes, under social distancing rules, from November 2 to November 8, 2020. Neil Robertson was the defending champion. No less than four Grove players were involved, all on merit, which is quite remarkable as there were only 13 actual champions in the draw. Other than Neil, the defending champion, Luca Brecel (CLS 2020 winner), Ding Junhui (UK championship 2019 winner), and Judd Trump who qualified multiple times were also in the draw.

Final for Judd Trump in the Championship League Snooker 2020 (Autumn)

The 2020 128 men CLS started on 13 September and finished on 30 October in Milton Keynes. It was played over three separate weeks. The first two weeks produced 32 Group winners. those then fought it out in the Winners week.
All Grove players, except Ding Junhui, were involved. Only Judd Trump reached the Winners week. He made it to the Final, losing by 3-1 to Kyren Wilson. Those two are really developing an interesting rivalry, which is good for the sport.

Judd Trump is the 2020 English Open Champion

The 2020 English Open was played in Milton Keynes, England, from 12 to 18 October 2020. Judd Trump beat Neil Robertson by 9-8 in an all-Grove Final. This brings Judd’s ranking titles tally to 18, equalling Neil and Mark Selby. He also became the first player to win three Home Nations tournaments. Quite remarkably, Judd has now won the ten last finals he has been competing in.

It was an excellent match, Judd was obviously very proud, but Neil also enjoyed the battle and happy with his performance.
