European Masters 2018

The European Masters 2018 was played at “De Soeverein”, in Lommel, Belgium, from 1 to 7 October 2018. The tournament was won by Jimmy Robertson, who beat Joe Perry by 9-6 in the Final.
All Grove players were playing in this tournament. Both Luca and Judd had their last 128 match held-over, Luca being the only Belgian player on the tour, and Judd being the defending champion, and both went on to win those matches.Judd was looking to make it three in a row but it wasn’t to be this time.

Trio of Qualifiers: Indian Open, European Masters and China Championship 2018

Over the last week, three sets of qualifying rounds were played in Preston.
Indian Open 2018 – last 128 – 15-16 Aug 2018
Three Grove players were involved: LIang Wenbo, Oliver Lines and Luca Brecel. All three won their qualifying match. Neil Robertson and Jack Lisowski are also in the draw but their match is held over to the main venue. This time all Grove players entered the tournament and, except Oliver, all who needed to qualify won their opening match. Wenbo and Neil have their last 2128 match held over to the venue.
Judd made very light work of tour rookie Kishan Hirani, beating him by 5-0
Luca did (nearly) the same to Ian Burns, beating him by 5-1 with breaks of 95, 77, 74 and 67.
Ali also recorde an emphatic 5-0 against Basel Eltahhan. Ali had a 98 and a 82.

All Grove players, except for Judd, were competing in the Riga Masters Qualifiers in Preston last week (July 2nd 2018 – July 5th 2018). All of them won their qualifying match and will be in Latvia at the end of this month.
Neil beat young Luo Honghao by 4-2. Luo was the winner of the inaugural WSF Championship in Malta last spring. It was a high quality match with a break over 60 in every frame. It was streamed.

English Institute of Sport, Sheffield, 11-18 April 2018. Only Jack Lisowski and Oliver Lines were involved in those qualifying rounds. Oliver won his first match, but was beaten, in a deciding frame, by Alan McManus in round 2. He did enough though to secure his professional status via the one year list. Jack won his three matches, beating Alan McManus in the third round by 10-3. He played very well throughout. He will play Stuart Bingham in the first round at the Crucible Theatre.

Gibraltar – pro stage played 9, 10 & 11 March 2018
Four Grove players had entered the tournament: Ali Carter, Luca Brecel, Oliver Lines and Jack Lisowski. Welsh Open 2018

The 2018 Welsh Open ran from February 26 to March 4, 2018 in the Motorpoint Arena, Cardiff. The tournament was won by John Higgins who beat Barry Hawkins by 9-7 in the Final.

China Open 2018 – Qualifiers

The China Open last 128 qualifying round was played in Barnsley over the last four days (27-30 January 2018). With a prize pot of 1 million pounds, and £225000 for the winner, this event will likely be crucial when it comes to determine who will go to the Crucible by right and who will have to play 3 qualifying matches. German Masters 2018 Qualifiers

The two round of qualifiers for the German Masters 2018 were played in Barnsley, from 19 to 22 December 2017. Only Judd and Jack from the Grove will be in Berlin end January 2018. The timing of these qualifiers, at the end of a very busy first half of the season probably explains why there were a lot of unexpected results with only 7 of the top 16 going through.

Neil wins the Scottish Open 2017

Neil won the Scottish Open 2017, defeating Cao Yupeng in a deciding frame, having trailed by 8-4. This is a fantastic victory for Neil, who has been struggling for the last two seasons. He couldn’t focus properly on his snooker whilst his partner was battling depression. Now she is winning the battle, and he is a winner again. Neil will miss the Masters, but he’s back in the top 16 and he’s not too bothered as much more important things in his, and his family’s life are getting on tracks …
