Ding reaches the Final at the 2023 UK Championship

The 2023 UK Championship was played at the Barbican in York, England, from 25 November to 3 December 2023. Mark Allen was the defending champion.
This tournament is played under a tiered system and of the four Grove players, only Ding had to qualify, which he did by beating Daniel Wells (6-4) and Robbie Williams (6-3).
Neil Robertson fell at the first hurdle, losing to Zhou Yuelong by 6-2.
Luca Brecel went one round further, but lost to Zhang Anda, by 6-4, in the round of 16.

The 2023 Champion of Champions

The 2023 Champion of Champions, featuring the event winners from the previous year, was played at the University Stadium in Bolton, England from 13 to 19 November 2023. The defending Champion was Ronnie O’Sullivan who withdrew from the tournament for medical reasons.
Three of the Grove players were in the draw: Luca Brecel, Mark Selby, and Ding Junhui. Luca and Mark lost in the first round, but Ding progressed thanks to a win over Zhang Anda, the man who had beaten him at the International Championship. That match went …

The 2023 International Championship

The 2023 International Championship took place in the Tianjin People’s Gymnasium, Tianjin, China from 5 to 12 November 2023.
The tournament hadn’t been held since 2019 because of Covid. Judd Trump was the defending Champion.
The event was won by Zhang Anda who beat Tom Ford by 10-6 in a Final not many would have predicted.

The 2023 English Open was played from 2 to 8 October 2023 in Brentwood, Essex. The event was won by Judd Trump who beat Zhang Anda by 9-7 in the Final.
It wasn’t a great event for the Grove players,

Luca Brecel reaches the Final at the 2023 Shanghai Masters

The 2023 Shanghai Masters was played at the Grand Stage in Shanghai, from 11 to 17 September 2023. The prestigious invitational tournament featured only 24 players and all four Grove players featured in that elite group. Ronnie O’Sullivan was the defending champion.
The first round saw twelve professionals and four Chinese wildcards compete to reach the “last 16″ round. Ding was involved in that round and he beat Si Jishui by 6-2. This was Ding’s first match of the season.

The 2023 World Champion discovers Hong Kong

The reigning World Champion, Luca Brecel, was invited to visit Hong Kong by the General Club, the club that used to host the General Cup, a very high-profile pro-am that saw many top players compete over the years. Accompanied by his girlfriend Laura, and his manager Django Fung, Luca really enjoyed the experience. It was his first visit to Hong Kong. He got to meet the fans, and do exhibition stuff.

Neil Robertson wins the 2021 English Open

On Sunday, November 7, 2021, Neil Robertson beat John Higgins in a deciding frame to become the English Open Champion for the first time.
This brought Neil on 21 ranking titles, one better than the reigning World Champion Mark Selby, and just behind Judd Trump who sits at 22.
The tournament was played in Milton Keynes, England, from November 1 to November 7, 2021. The fans were allowed to attend and turned up enthusiastically.

2021 Northern Ireland Open

The tournament was played at the Waterfront in Belfast from 9-17 October 2021. Mark Aleen beat John Higgins by 9-8 in the final to become the 2021 Northern Ireland Champion.
The big talking points ahead of the tournament were:
will Judd Trump be able to win this event for the fourth consecutive year?
will he face Ronnie O’Sullivan again in the final?
and will he beat him by the same 9-7 score ?

The 2021 British Open

The 2021 British Open was played at the Morningside Arena in Leicester from 16 to 22 August 2021. The event was won by Mark Williams who beat Gary Wilson by 6-4 in the final. All Grove players were involved except Ding Juhui and Neil Robertson… who was getting married! Congratulations Neil, Mille, and the whole family!
It was Ali Carter again who had the deepest run, he reached the last 16 round.

Championship League Snooker 2021 (Summer)

The 2021 summer Championship League Snooker was the first event of the 2021/22 season. I was played at the Morningside Arena in Leicester over four weeks in July and August 2021. All Grove players except Ding and Neil Robertson were involved. Judd Trump and Ali Carter reached stage 2. Ali went one step better and played on the final day; there he came second in his group, only Behind David Gilbert the eventual winner. It was David Gilbert first ranking event title. Congratulations David!
